My love for the potbellied Elephant headed-god has grown over the years - from the curious child wondering why an elephant is dressed up like a god, to the respectful youngster who accepts the human like characterizations of Hindu Gods, to a more mature appreciative acceptance as I read through various mythological and religious texts to understand the essence of Ganesha.
I have spent some years in Mumbai, first for my MBA and then I worked there for sometime. It was during this period that I first realized the mass appeal of the elephant god. His brand recall ensures that variety of material in which we get idols of Ganesha are staggering. No other Hindu god's deities have been experimented with so much by sculptors/artists/fashion over the ages.
My interest lies in collecting idols made of variety of things like wood, plastic, glass, stone, cloth, terracotta, grass, tree roots, shells, sand dust and also idols in various mudras(poses).
The curiosity has grown to a passion and my army of Ganesha idols has grown to 130,and the count is still on...
